Once you fix your sleep, you can fix anything

When we learn to fix our sleep, we can fix (just about) anything.
Here’s what I mean by that.
Sleep is one of those fundamental areas of life that – if we could get “good” at it – would benefit us greatly. While it’s not a cure-all, it does have an important part to play in almost every aspect of our health – from our immune system, to our memory, to our ability to cope with emotions and stress (if you want to discover more about how sleep affects our health, check out this article).
So sleep can be pretty great, when it works for us.
On the other hand, when it doesn’t, it can also be a mother of a problem to have.
And there are no quick fixes here. It requires a deep and mindful approach. But successfully working through this has the potential to teach us important life skills.
About how to take better care of ourselves, how to stay motivated, how to navigate the seductions of distraction that exist everywhere around us.
Therefore, if we can ‘fix’ sleep, we can begin to develop the toolset to be able to address just about any problem.
Especially those that rely on the same essential skills, such as issues in our general health, in our work, in our long-term relationships.
On a deeper level, once we start to tackle sleep problems in this more nuanced and meaningful way, we are beginning to look behind the curtains of those problems. To begin to understand what is really going on.
I often say that
sleep is just a metaphor for your life.
It is a reflection of what’s going on underneath, the fears we have, the things that keep us up at night, the pain points we can’t distract ourselves from when it gets quiet.

By delving into sleep, we go deep into the real issues behind why you are not sleeping well and take a close look at the factors that contribute to this.
Sound scary? It’s not.
The scary part is the uncertainty we feel.
All of that uncertainty about the ‘big mountain’ ahead of us.
All of the anxiety it generates.
The limited time we have, to do all this work.
We already have so much to do, we’re already so behind! It seems impossible.
But it’s not.
The mountain is not an awful, uphill climb, like we fear.
It’s an amazing walk in a wild forest.
Where there are discoveries to be made.
With hidden, natural caves,
where we get to be explorers,
adventurers of our own lives,
and our own minds.

And above all,
there,
we find the fulfilment we seek.
The only place we can find it.
So join me on this walk.
It’s always more fun when you travel together.
